The Montreal Canadiens have a lot to celebrate, what with their clear domination in the sport of hockey. While it has always been fun for Montreal fans to cheer on when players from their fold are able to achieve great things, they also appreciate their rivals who made the game much more exciting. Pietro Triassi of Montreal shares come facts about hockey’s GOAT, Wayne Gretzky.

1. Wayne Gretzky remains as the only NHL player to garner over 200 points in a single season. In the NHL, when a player scores a goal, he gets a point. When the player assists on a goal, he is also awarded a point for it. Gretzky was a good scorer and passer, which made him rack up the many points under his name. 


2. Wayne Gretzky is the most illustrious MVP to ever have won the award in any major sport. With 9 MVP awards under his belt, no other athlete has matched his greatness even in other leagues like the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and even Major League Baseball. Pietro Triassi of Montreal believes that this feat will remain unmatched for generations to come.

3. Wayne Gretzky’s jersey number is never going to be worn by another player for the rest of the NHL’s existence. He is the only player in NHL history whose jersey number was retired across all teams and franchises in the league. This is a testament to how valuable his contributions to the sport are.

4. Gretzky was turned into a cartoon character, alongside other sports GOATs Bo Jackson of baseball, and Michael Jordan of basketball. The trio was known as the Pro Stars, who came together to fight crime. Pietro Triassi of Montreal shares that Gretzky was a hero on the ice, off the ice, and on screen too.
